Final Blog post Group Project

Today in animation class we finished work on our group project assignment. I finished up the last touches needed such as compiling the sound with the video and then rendering the final product. I liked working on the project, I especially enjoyed animating the truck since it was an interesting object to animate

Updating to higher resolution

For our project Marcus had created a spaceship that was going to be used. I simply touched up the typography a bit so that it would be more compatible with a higher poly count smoothing. I believe this slight touch of extra detailing will help improve the animation overall and give it a better look.

Weight Painting Character

After I had finished creating the character I needed to add a rig. This part was pretty simple to do, but after this the joint weights needed to be painted. I started by positioning the character into different simple poses, such as a leg being lifted up. Then I would adjust the weights to make the mesh form smoother than beforehand. It was a lot of work and sometimes Maya would crash unexpectedly, but I was able to complete the job and get a good weighting done.

Creating a Character

For our animation project I was given the task of creating the farmer character. I was already working on a default character body that I decided to use as my baseline for the character. I then created a simple face for the him because it would take too long to make a more detailed face(with my first attempt taking around 20 hours to get into a decent shape). I then created clothing for the character; giving him overalls, boots, gloves, and a straw hat. I chose the articles of clothing to further convey that he is a farmer. I then added some small details such as buttons for the overalls and a mustache to distinguish the character more.

Rigging

Today in animation class I worked on rigging the character for our project. I had made a huge breakthrough in the rigging process. Maya has an auto rigging system that I had previously thought made good controls but had the worst skeleton and weight painting. But I figured out how to remedy those issues and now the amount of time it takes to rig and create controls significantly, this will help out greatly in later projects.
